# Payments

When does Upshift charge my payment card?

- The **$199 start fee** is processed immediately.
- Your **first month’s payment** is processed on your chosen activation date.
- Subsequent payments are billed on the **same day each month** (e.g., if you start on the 8th, you’ll be billed on the 8th each month).
- **Extra days or additional charges** (gas, tolls, [fees](/content/fees/index.html)) are billed **after your trip**.

What methods of payment do you accept?

- Major credit cards: **Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover**.
- Debit cards, cash, checks, PayPal, Venmo, pre-paid, or digital cards are **not accepted**.
- The credit card must be in the **name of the driver**.
